Sacral Chakra Balancing + My Experience and Results.
The sacral chakra, or svadhisthana, is one of the most important energy centers in the body. Located in the lower abdomen, this chakra governs creativity, emotions, sexuality, and relationships.
When balanced, the sacral chakra allows us to move through life with joy, passion, and healthy boundaries. But when out of alignment, we may experience emotional instability, fear of intimacy, or blocked creative flow. In this comprehensive guide, we will explore what the sacral chakra is, its function and meaning, signs it is blocked or overactive, and practical tips to bring it into balance. I’ll also share my own experience and the results I’ve got from sacral chakra balancing work.
The sacral chakra is the second energy center located below the navel. It controls creativity, sexuality, emotions, pleasure, and relationships. Keeping this chakra balanced allows for healthy emotional expression, intimacy, self-confidence, and creative flow.

What Is the Sacral Chakra?
In Sanskrit, the ancient language of yoga and meditation, the sacral chakra is called svadhisthana, which means “one’s own abode.” It is considered the dwelling place of the self. Located about three fingers below the navel in the lower abdomen, this orange energy center is associated with the element of water and governs fluidity, creativity, sexuality, emotions, and relationships.
Sacral Chakra Meaning
As the second of the seven main chakras (the first one is the root chakra), the sacral’s role is to help us physically and emotionally connect with others and the world around us. When our sacral chakra is balanced and open, we tend to feel confident, creative, sensual, and full of healthy emotions. We forge nourishing intimate relationships, freely express our needs, and pursue our passions. The energy in this area allows us to go with the natural ebb and flow of life.
Sacral Chakra Function
The sacral chakra serves several important functions:
- Stores the essence of the life force, known as prana
- Distributes energy to the lower half of the body
- Influences the health of reproductive organs
- Controls the flow of emotions
- Stimulates creativity and imagination
- Governs intimacy, sexuality, and sensuality
- Allows us to connect deeply with others
Sacral Chakra Location
The sacral chakra location is in the lower abdomen behind the navel. Its front location is about two inches below the belly button. In the back of the body, it sits against the lumbar spine, in the area of the sacrum bone. This is why it is sometimes also referred to as the sacrum chakra.
Characteristics of a Healthy Sacral Chakra
When our sacral chakra is balanced and open, we experience the following:
- Healthy emotional expression
- Comfort with intimacy and sexuality
- Nourishing relationships
- Uninhibited creative flow
- Pleasure and joy in life’s experiences
- Ability to connect deeply with others
- Receptivity and flexibility
- Feelings of self-confidence
Sacral Chakra Color – Orange
The color associated with the svadhisthana chakra is orange. Orange represents vitality, creativity, fertility, and confidence. Focusing on the color orange while doing balancing practices can help heal this energy center.
Sacral Chakra Element – Water
The element corresponding to the sacral chakra is water. Water is fluid, flowing, and adaptable, allowing us to let go and be in the present moment. A balanced water element supports emotional fluidity, creativity, and intimacy. Physically, it ensures we stay hydrated by promoting healthy urinary and reproductive systems.
Sacral Chakra Symbols
There are a few common symbols related to this chakra:

These symbols represent the creative life force, divine feminine energy, and the chakra’s association with intuition, reproduction, and fertility.

Sacral Chakra: My Experience and Results
A few months ago, I made a conscious decision to actively and consistently balance my chakras. To ensure thorough exploration, I devoted a minimum of one month to each chakra. My journey began with the root chakra, which I documented in a video on the Earth star chakra.
After approximately two months, I moved on to the second chakra and was surprised by what was happening during this period.
At first, I experienced a purging of pent-up emotions and layers of emotional blockages. An overwhelming surge of anger and aggression manifested, leading me to realize that these emotions were intertwined with boundaries in one of my relationships with a family member.
As the sacral chakra governs relationship boundaries, activating it brought these violations to the forefront for processing. The second chakra work ultimately heightened one particular situation, allowing me to identify and rectify where my boundaries were being transgressed.
Additionally, I recognized that feelings of shame often obstruct the sacral chakra. Accordingly, I found myself addressing situations and emotions related to shame, particularly those originating from my early childhood.
Furthermore, various circumstances prompted me to address and confront my fear of rejection, necessitating further inner child work. Remarkably, as I delved deeper into the sacral chakra’s energy, positive transformations began to manifest:
I felt an increasing inclination towards moments of relaxation, rest, and meditation, yearning for walks and spending time in nature. Unexpectedly, I felt compelled to visit waterfalls, only realizing upon arrival that this desire held a profound connection to the sacral chakra’s water element.
My husband and I started spending more quality time together, fostering a greater sense of ease and positive interaction within our relationship.
Moreover, I observed a synchronistic energetic connection during this period, as clients sought my assistance in activating and harmonizing their sacral chakra energies. Interestingly, this influx coincided with a spontaneous increase in monetary abundance during my sessions.
I also noted that the second chakra strongly influences our physical health and our relationship with our bodies. Consequently, I recognized that my body required greater movement and exercise, a commitment I intend to prioritize as I transition into working with the third chakra.

Water Therapy
Spending time near bodies of water, swimming, or taking a bath helps connect with the sacral chakra’s water element.
Journaling
Writing down your thoughts, dreams, and creative ideas helps them flow freely from sacral to physical form.
Foods to Nourish the Sacral Chakra
Some foods share qualities with the sacral energy center and can help balance its water element when eaten regularly. Try incorporating more:
- Sweet fruits – melons, mangos, peaches, plums, figs
- Coconuts and coconut water
- Orange vegetables & fruits – carrots, squash, oranges
- Spices – cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla, ginger, nutmeg, cloves
- Nuts and seeds – almonds, walnuts, flaxseed, sunflower seeds
Sacral Chakra Healing
While occasional imbalance is normal, chronic blocks or overactivity of the sacral chakra can negatively impact the quality of life and relationships. By making balance a regular practice, you’ll notice greater creativity, emotional intelligence, intimacy, and overall well-being. But healing deep-rooted blockages often requires addressing core beliefs.
Past experiences of shame or trauma around sexuality, unhealthy relationship patterns, and suppressing emotions often underlie sacral imbalances. Working with a therapist, support groups, or a transformational coach can help you process old wounds, build self-worth, and create healthy boundaries that support the free flow of sacral energy.
